Jon Woods, Watchmaker

Jon Woods Watchmaking

My name is Jon Woods, also known as Jon the Watch. For over 35 years I have been an engineer of one kind or another, then I eventually found my true vocation in watchmaking.

Five years ago, I wrote and started to teach complete beginners to watchmaking in a structured weekly evening class at the Epping Forest Horology Centre.  I then went on to write a second-year course, which is a linear progression from the first-year course, focussing on automatic and chronograph watches, as well as precision repairs, hints, tips, and techniques you won’t find online!

Two years ago, I created the London Watchmaking School at Wimbledon Art Studios in South London to tutor anyone who wanted to learn the theoretical and practical aspects of watchmaking as well as ultimately gain the ability to service their own watches.  All levels are catered for; from complete novices, and seasoned horologists, to professional watchmakers who want to brush up on their technical skills and also their theoretical understanding. Online lessons are also taught.

I also teach regular weekend taster days for those who want to dip their toes into the world of horology and experience the world of watchmaking.

I provide bespoke tuition to established watch companies such as Christopher Ward, Mr Jones Watches, Camden Watch Company, and WTC Watch Repairs, to name a few.

I teach watchmaking and service and repair all types of modern and vintage watches.

I believe watchmaking is ‘love made visible’.
